In 2005, DeWayne Perry, his wife, Keysha Perry, and Jay Williams (who have a combined 40 years of day care experience) partnered to open Care Bear Childcare Center, which is a licensed group child care facility in Racine.  They started with one room in a building at 1300 Douglas Avenue, and in 13 years, have grown to take over that entire facility.

The center accepts children ages 6 weeks to 13 years of age and they have a total capacity of 42 children at one time.  They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  They currently employ 11 child care teachers and are serving 75 children over three shifts.

Care Bear participates in YoungStar, a program of the Department of Children and Families created to improve the quality of childcare for Wisconsin children.  YoungStar evaluates and rates the quality of care given by child care providers, supports providers with tools and training to deliver high quality early care and sets a consistent standard for child care quality.

Children are coming into the daycare to learn, not to play all day.  By the time children are ready to go into kindergarden, they have mastered their numbers, the alphabet and nearly 200 words.  The children are focused on educational activities no less than five times per day.  For older children, there are homework hours after school, followed by age appropriate activities.

Care Bear offers three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) as well as snacks.  They participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program which promotes healthy and nutritious meals for children in day care.  This is a program of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
