Businesses along the Douglas Avenue corridor are encouraged to submit information about their business which will be placed on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linked In as well as e-blasts. Our Social media pages have over 750 followers and our electronic newsletter reaches nearly 3,000 people.  Let us know about your store hours, special sales, and special events; and be sure to send us photographs of your business.

GRANTS

The Douglas Avenue Business Improvement District (BID) has created various grant programs to leverage investments, and the City of Racine funds the Façade Improvement Program which incentivizes certain commercial buildings that reside within the Douglas Avenue corridor.

Below are the current programs and initiatives of the Douglas Avenue BID. We hope that you will take advantage of these programs and share them with your neighbors.

Douglas Avenue Design Services Grant

This grant was created to help property owners on Douglas Avenue with design services needed in preparation for Façade Improvements. A total of $3,000 per building is available through this grant.

Douglas Avenue Lighting Grant

This grant was established to help property owners within the Douglas Avenue corridor improve the safety and security of the area through the installation of additional exterior lighting. The Douglas Avenue BID will provide a total of $1,000 per building towards the purchase and installation of new exterior lighting.

Douglas Avenue Landscaping Grant

This grant was created to help property owners within the Douglas Avenue corridor enhance the appearance of their property through improved or additional landscaping. The Douglas Avenue BID will provide a total of $250 per building towards the purchase of permanent flowers and plantings along the front or side facades.

Douglas Ave. Maintenance and Repairs Grant

This grant was established to offer a 1:1 matching grant as an incentive for critical exterior maintenance and repairs to commercial buildings within the district. The maximum grant award is $1,000 for exterior restoration and painting, roof repair and replacement, window and door repair and/or replacement, and masonry work.

In 2008, the City of Racine received a petition from property owners along Douglas Avenue that requested the creation of a Business Improvement District (BID) for the purpose of redeveloping Douglas Avenue.
